TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The pseudo-motion of the sun, which is currently located in the north equator, caused hot temperatures in Indonesia’s regions, including Bandung, West Java. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the daily temperature in Bandung for the past week increased to 29.6-31.6 degrees.
“The normal maximum temperature in Bandung is 28.8 degrees Celsius,” said the Bandung Regional BMKG’s Head of Geophysics Station, Teguh Rahayu, on Monday, May 9, 2022.
The surge in temperature was also accompanied by the increase in humidity levels from normally 88 percent to around 89-91 percent. The combination, she explained, “is the main reason why the temperature in Greater Bandung for the past week has been hot and stifling.”
Rahayu explained that the current pseudo-motion of the sun inhibited cloud growth in West Java and Java Island. “So the Earth is receiving more sun's energy so that the weather during the day feels hotter and more humid,” she added.
She also said that the sea surface temperature also contributed to the recent hot temperatures and high humidity in Bandung.
“This condition is predicted to continue until the end of May or the end of the transition season,” said Rahayu. The BMKG forecasted that Greater Bandung will enter the dry season in early to mid-June 2022.
Rahayu denied that the current condition was considered a heatwave. As Bandung is still in the transition season, it is common to experience changes in weather. “Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds or lightning is still possible,” she concluded.
