Indonesia Qualifies for AFC U23 Asian Cup Semi-finals after Beating South Korea in Shootout Drama

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's U-23 national team advanced to the semi-finals of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup after defeating South Korea at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on Friday, April 26. The Garuda won 11-10 in a penalty shootout.
The match between Indonesia and South Korea ended in a 2-2 after 90 minutes of normal time. Two of Indonesia's goals were scored by Rafael Struick in the 15th minute and the 45th minute. South Korea scored through own goals by Komang Teguh in the 45th minute and Jeong Sang-bin in the 84th minute.
In the penalty shootout, South Korea's Kim Min-woo (2 penalties), Lee Kang-hee, Hwang Jae-won, Paik Sang-hoon, Byun Jun-soo, Hong Yun-sang, Cho Hyun-taek, Jeon Sang-bin and goalkeeper Baek Jong-beom all scored. Meanwhile, Kang Sang-yoon missed and Lee Kang-hee's second shot was blocked by Indonesia’s goalkeeper Ernando Ari.
In the Indonesian camp, Ramadhan Sananta (2 penalties), Pratama Arhan, Rafael Struick, Marselino Ferdinan, Justin Hubner, Jeam Kelly Sroyer, Rizky Ridho and goalkeeper Ernando Ari were successful, while only Arkhan Fikri missed. Pratama Arhan then scored the decisive kick-spot in the marathon shootout.
The statistics for the 120 minutes of the match show that Indonesia dominated possession with 52.9 percent compared to 46.9 percent for Korea. Indonesia had 20 scoring chances, five of which were on target. Korea had eight chances, only two of which were on target. No goals were scored until the end of extra time.
