NTB Logs Coldest Temperature of 11.5 Degrees Celcius at the Foot of Mount Rinjani

9 August 2023 16:54 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Mataram - West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) recorded a temperature of 18.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, its lowest on record throughout 2023. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that today’s temperature in the province reached 19.4 degrees Celsius

“The temperature of 18.2 degrees Celsius on August 8 is indeed the lowest temperature ever recorded throughout 2023 and observed at the NTB Climatology Station,” the NTB Climatology Station forecaster, Ni Made Adi Purwaningsih, said on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

Compared to the minimum temperature in August over the past ten years, the temperature on August 8 is still relatively lower than the average.

“Over the past 10 years, the lowest air temperature has ever been recorded, especially in August which was observed and recorded by the BMKG-NTB Climatology Station, was on August 5, 2019, was 16.6 degrees Celsius,” Adi explained.

BMKG also stated that the air temperature in Sembalun District, East Lombok Regency, which is located at the foot of Mount Rinjani, at an altitude of about 1,163 meters above sea level, hit 11.5 degrees Celsius in the middle of the dry season.

Previously, the BMKG explained that the air temperature in NTB would be colder than usual, especially in the morning, even though it is entering the peak of the dry season because the sun's position is in the northern hemisphere. In addition, the monsoon wind that blows from the Australian continent to Asia crosses the NTB region, bringing cold and dry air.
