TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police spokesman grand commissioner Yusri Yunus on Tuesday claims the firearms that were used by Islam Defenders Front (FPI) ‘laskar’ members in the shootout at the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road on Monday were homemade/improvised weapons.
The police spokesman revealed that police’s forensics are currently conducting ballistic tests on the 9mm handguns they claim to be owned and used by the FPI members against police officers.
“We are studying them and gathering the pieces of evidence. Which include investigating the crime scene and ballistics tests,” said Yusri Yunus on December 8. “We will announce more details once the investigation is wrapped up.”
The Metro Jaya Police on Tuesday announced field investigators had fatally shot six of the organization's members who were conducting an escort on Rizieq Shihab. The police personnel involved in the clash were investigating Rizieq over an illegal mass-mobilization attempt by the organization.
The deadly clash between police members and Rizieq Shihab sympathizers on Monday midnight took place at the Cikampek toll road after police received information that the FPI leader had planned to mobilize large groups of people as Rizieq was scheduled for police questioning.
