TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The director of the special crime investigation department of the Metro Jaya Police Chief Commissioner Ade Safri Simanjuntak assured that his side continues investigating the alleged extortion case involving Firli Bahuri despite his stepping down as chairman of Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK.
"[Firli stepping down] will not affect anything about the case handling a quo," Ade confirmed on Friday, December 22, 2023.
Firli stepped down from his post as the chairman of KPK as well as a KPK employee on December 20, 2023. Ade ensured that the investigation would proceed "professionally, [according to] the procedure, thorough, and accountable."
Previously, Metro Jaya Police named Firli Bahuri a suspect in alleged extortion against former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo on November 22, 2023.
Firli Bahuri requested a pretrial lawsuit to the South Jakarta District Court but was rejected by the Judges. Thus, Firli remains a suspect in the extortion case.
