TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Environment Agency and Regional Metro Jaya Police will again issue ticketing for drivers of vehicles that have not undergone or failed emissions tests starting Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
“We are targeting two- and four-wheeled motorized vehicles that are over three years old,” a spokesperson for the Jakarta Air Pollution Task Force (Satgas PPU), Ani Ruspitawati, said today, October 30, 2023.
As of Friday, October 27, at least 1,167,870 cars and 124,588 motorbikes had had emissions testing. In the Jakarta area, there are now 456 workshops providing vehicle emission tests, consisting of 342 workshops for cars and 114 workshops for motorbikes.
The implementation of this emissions test ticketing is based on Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation. The fine for this violation is Rp250,000 for motorbikes and Rp500,000 for cars.
Earlier, Traffic Director of Metro Jaya Police Sr. Comr. Latif Usman appealed to the public to immediately test the emissions of their vehicles before the policy is implemented on Wednesday. “We expect people to immediately test their vehicles’ emissions,” he said.
