TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of Jakarta Environmental Office Asep Kuswanto reported that 57 vehicles have been caught in emissions test ticketing in its first day of operation yesterday. The number consisted of 20 units of cars and 37 units of motorcycles.
"The law enforcement operation will be conducted by Metro Jaya Police and the provincial government of Jakarta over 51 times until the end of the year," he said as quoted by Antara on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
Asep also stressed that his agency has been informing the public about the mandated emissions test. Jakarta Environmental Office has attempted various approaches to push residents of Jakarta to conduct emissions tests.
"Starting from the free emissions test program, grand emissions test in three provinces, and the emissions test week involving more than 500 workshops in Jakarta, and emission training in three provinces," he said.
The emissions test ticketing itself was based on Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Transportation, including Article 285 and Article 286. The fine for people violating emissions test regulations amounted to Rp250,000 for motorcycles and Rp500,000 for cars.
