Emissions Test Ticketing Reinstated; Police to Deploy 50 Personnel

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Metro Jaya police will deploy 50 of its members starting today, Wednesday, November 1, 2023, to conduct the reinstated emissions test ticketing. The personnel are stationed in various raid locations in Jakarta. 

The emissions test ticketing will be conducted in cooperation with the Jakarta Environmental Office. "For every unit area, the emissions tests will be conducted by 8 to 10 personnel, and the distributions [at raid locations] will be adjusted accordingly," said Vice Traffic Director Chief Commissioner Doni Hermawan when called on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

Concerning the fine, Doni added, it will be implemented in stages. Before ticketing the vehicles, people failing the emissions test will be reprimanded first and then given recommendations to conduct emissions tests. "So the people don't feel burdened," he said.

Doni also explained that an emissions raid is conducted to check the conditions of the vehicles' machines.

Emissions tests at the raid locations are provided for free, Doni said. According to Doni, people are only charged for emissions tests if they conduct the test "Independently at workshops."

Previously, emissions test ticketing began operation last September with maximum fine implementation. However, the policy did not last long and was halted, with police citing the effectiveness of the raid against the air pollution in Jakarta and how emissions test ticketing was a burden on residents of the province.
