TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The spokesperson for the Jakarta Air Pollution Control Task Force Ani Ruspitawati addressed the rumor that vehicles older than three years are barred from entering Jakarta.
According to her, these vehicles are not forbidden or limited to entering the state capital, but they must undergo an emissions test first. "There is no prohibition of vehicles older than three years to enter Jakarta. Our focus is to ensure every vehicle is up to the emissions standardization," she said as quoted from the official website of the Jakarta provincial government on Monday, November 6, 2023.
The emissions test and emissions test ticketing are intended to educate the public concerning the emissions test regulation. "The point is, every person who has a vehicle has to [ensure] their vehicle is standardized. Thus, emissions test ticketing was just part of the efforts to accelerate public obedience to emissions tests," she added.
Earlier, the Metro Jaya police decided to halt emissions test ticketing for the second time after its first day of operation. the police's Traffic Director Chief Commissioner Latif Usman said the public still needed more time to be socialized further on the importance of emissions tests.
"So for the time being, after the prior evaluation, we will intensify socialization and education toward the public [on emissions test]. So no more emissions test ticketing," he said.
However, Ani informed that the emissions test raid will still be resumed until the end of the year. "We only halted the emissions test ticketing as it was the police's authority," she said. "During the raid, the concept is socialization. We will educate the public about emissions tests."
Emissions test raids are important, Ani added, as part of the socialization process about vehicle maintenance and air pollution, especially in Jakarta.
