Three Days of Heavy Rain Expected in West Java This Week: BMKG

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHeavy to massive intensity rain is expected to drench West Java this week, July 31-August 6, on a local scale and of short duration. The province’s Climatology Station of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasted them to occur on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

At the beginning of the week, on Monday and Tuesday, July 31-August 1, there is no potential for rain in the region. On Wednesday, August 2, heavy to massive rain will likely hit Bogor Regency, Bogor City, Sukabumi Regency, Cianjur, Greater Bandung, Garut, and Tasikmalaya.

The potential for rain will continue on Thursday, August 3, in the same regions. While on Saturday, August 5, heavy rains may only wet Bogor, Sukabumi, and Cianjur.

Head of the West Java Climatology Station, Rakhmat Prasetia, explained several factors affecting cloud growth and the occurrence of rain in the province including the relatively warm sea surface temperature across the archipelago, “especially in parts of the northern waters of West Java,” Rakhmat said on Sunday, July 30.

Additionally, Rossby waves were predicted to exist around the province, and Kelvin waves might be active at the start of the week. The atmospheric lability would likely be significant in the mild to moderate category, supporting the convection with the potential for light to massive rain on a local scale in parts of West Java.
