TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Another earthquake shook Garut and some parts of West Java on Wednesday night, May 1. According to data from the Meteorology Agency, BMKG, a 4.0 magnitude quake occurred at 20:35 Western Indonesia Time.

The quake was centered at the sea with the epicenter 93 kilometers southwest of Bandung Regency. The hypocenter was recorded at 24 kilometers deep.

The strongest tremor was felt in several areas in Garut, namely Cidora, Pamengpeuk, Cisewu, Bungbulang, and Talegong, as well as in Singaparna, Tasikmalaya.

BMKG stated that the intensity of the shaking in these areas was measured on the III MMI scale. This is equivalent to the vibration felt in the house when a truck drives by.

Earlier in the morning, a M4.2 quake struck at 10:06. It was centered on the land, 20 kilometers southeast of Bandung Regency, West Java, at a depth of 4 kilometers.

The quake was caused by activity on the South Garut fault, the BMKG said. The tremor was felt in Majalaya, Ciwidey, Banjaran, Cibereum, Pangalengan, and Garut on the MMI III intensity scale.

On Monday, a magnitude 3.7 earthquake also struck Garut. It was centered by the sea, 84 kilometers southwest of Pangandaran Regency.

The largest quake, with a magnitude of 6.5, occurred on Saturday night, April 27. The intensity of the shaking at that time even reached the MMI IV scale or higher, which was felt by many people in the house.
