Indonesia's Kominfo Assures Digital Transformation Will Continue After Ransomware Attack

27 June 2024 15:29 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Ministry of Communications and Information (Kominfo) assured the country's digital transformation efforts will not be deterred by the recent ransomware attack on the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS). Deputy Kominfo Minister Nezar Patria emphasized the importance of staying the course.

“We cannot go backward, we must keep moving forward! Digitalization will continue and Indonesia must be at the forefront. This (attack) should not dampen our enthusiasm,” Nezar said in a written statement on June 26.

He said that digital transformation could increase efficiency, simplify business processes, and improve access to government services for the people. He considered the recent cyberattack as a valuable lesson to strengthen cybersecurity measures as Indonesia continues its digitalization journey. “We have learned an important lesson here, a very critical one.”

The Kominfo Ministry, he went on, has been paying attention to cyber security aspects in the design of Indonesia's digital transformation, and the cyberattack has exposed vulnerabilities in Indonesia's digital security infrastructure.

He further offered an apology on behalf of the Ministry to those affected by the disruption of public services caused by the attack.

Previously, Kominfo Ministry’s Director General of Information and Public Communication, Usman Kansong, reaffirmed the ongoing construction of the Permanent National Data Center despite the PDNS attack. The temporary paralysis of the PDN in Surabaya due to the cyber attack occurred on June 20, impacting 282 government services.

He revealed that the Permanent PDN in Cikarang, West Java, is slated for inauguration in August, and the government would evaluate its construction following the recent cyberattack.
