TEMPO.CO, Mataram - Motocross riders took part in a parade before the Motocross Granprix or MXGP 2024 race. They rode ontel bikes and traditional vehicles called cidomo from Hubbul Wathan Islamic Center or IC to Teras Udayana Mataram, East Nusa Tenggara or NTB on Friday, June 28.
The locals looked enthusiastic as they flocked to the Teras Udayana area to watch the MXGP riders. Upon arrival at Teras Udayana, the riders were greeted with a jaran kambut, one of Lombok's traditional arts, accompanied by traditional Gendang Beleq music featuring various colossal Mandalika arts.
Director of Samota Enduro Gemilang (SEG), Diaz Rahmah Irhan, said the parade was a prelude to the main MXGP race on Saturday, June 29.
"Yes, this parade is to liven up the MXGP Selaparang race. The riders who compete in Selaparang joined the parade as an introduction to the spectators or people," he said.
The MXGP 2024 is hoped to be a moment to introduce Indonesia, especially NTB, to the world. There are 22 participating countries with 24 MXGP crossers and 22 MX2 crossers testing the Selaparang circuit in the first series on June 29-30, 2024, and the second series on July 6-7, 2024.
The MXGP event currently happening in NTB, Indonesia is a big deal. Tri Budi Prayitno, the Head of the NTB Province Youth and Sports Service, is proud that NTB was able to successfully organize such a prestigious international motocross race.
He acknowledged the challenge of hosting an event of this caliber and believes it showcases Indonesia's growing significance on the world stage. Tri Budi hopes the event benefits various stakeholders and the surrounding community. "Including the businesses, event staff, and the locals, as well as gives positive global image for NTB and Indonesia."
Lalu Martawang, Mataram City Assistant II, also expressed gratitude for NTB hosting the event and wishes for a successful MXGP 2024.
Overall, NTB is looking to leverage the MXGP not just for the spectacle of the race, but also for economic development and international recognition.
