TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The interim chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Nawawi Pomolango, said his agency has named at least 100 corruption suspects so far in 2024.
He conveyed this information at a joint working meeting with Commission III of the House of Representatives or DPR RI to evaluate the corruption agency’s performance. "KPK handles 93 corruption cases with 100 suspects as of May 31," said Nawawi on Monday, July 1, 2024.
The majority of these corruption suspects were state officials, including those included in echelons I to IV. The KPK chair also said half of the cases related to the procurement of goods and services with a total of 43 cases.
Nawawi explained that KPK had carried out 26 investigations, 93 inquiries, and 53 prosecutions. KPK also recorded 61 inkracht cases and 50 executed, with returned state loss amounting to Rp296.5 billion.
"KPK continues to optimize the return of corruption assets to the state treasury by improving asset tracing, replacement money, and confiscated goods management to maintain their economic values,” he said.
However, said Nawawi, KPK’s supervision and coordination is still hindered by the regional head’s lack of commitment to eradicate corruption, proven by the number of corruption occurring at regional levels. Nawawi also said the relations between KPK, the National Police, and the Prosecutor’s Office are experiencing problems.
