Shin Tae-yong Vows Indonesia to Beat Philippines in World Cup Qualifier

10 June 2024 16:32 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian national team coach Shin Tae-yong asked fans not to worry ahead of their match against the Philippines in the second round of the Asian Zone 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He assured that the Garuda squad would surely fight hard for victory in the upcoming match on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

“There is no place for us to retreat. We will work as hard as possible to achieve victory for Indonesian football fans,” he said in a press conference at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday, June 10, 2024.

At present, Indonesia needs one more win to qualify for the third round of the Asian Zone 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The Red and White Troops are in second place in Group F, with one point ahead of their closest rivals Vietnam.

However, should they lose to the Philippines, they will still have a chance to advance depending on the result of the Vietnam-Iraq match on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Shin Tae-yong insisted that will not happen and that a win is a must for Rizky Ridho and friends. Speaking ahead of the match with the Azkals, the South Korean coach revealed that preparations are going well and that all the players are ready to fight.

“Indonesia has a greater chance of qualifying for the third round than Vietnam, especially since we are playing at home. Actually, in the match against Iraq, our game composition was not much different from Iraq. I am not worried about tomorrow's match because we can definitely get a ticket to round 3,” he said optimistically.

He also called on the trust of the Indonesian people in the national team.

Nevertheless, Shin Tae-yong did not underestimate the Philippines. The 53-year-old coach has analyzed their strengths and prepared a special formula to anticipate their game. “What I can say is don’t worry because we have a complete analysis of the team.”
