TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two detainees escaped after undergoing trial at the Mataram District Court. They jumped from the prison car when they were about to be taken back to the Class II Kuripan Penitentiary, West Lombok, Indonesia.
"They broke out the car window," said the Head of the Mataram District Prosecutor's Office, Ivan Jaka M.W, in a written statement, on Friday, June 28, 2024.
According to Ivan, the officer who was in the car did not know that the prisoners had smashed the car window and jumped out of the car when the vehicle was about to cross the Bypass Lane. "The car slowed down when it was about to turn, the car slowed down and that’s when they jumped," he said.
After noticing the escaped detainees, the officers tried to chase them but lost track. The prison transport resumed its journey to transfer the other detainees.
The guard officers then asked for help from Mataram’s Prosecutor’s Office Intelligence personnel, members of the Mataram Police, and West Lombok Police.
"Officers spread out around the location where the two detainees escaped," said Ivan. "Some others moved to SH and Z's (the detainees) house."
It didn't take long for officers to re-arrest SH at his residence in Majeluk, Mataram City, without resistance. Currently, SH has been returned to Kuripan Prison.
Meanwhile, the officers are still unable to find Z as he was not hiding in his family home in Gontoran Lingsar, West Lombok. "We hope Z will surrender soon," said Ivan.
Ivan explained that Z and SH were defendants in a theft case. SH was sentenced to 1 year and 4 months in prison, while prosecutors have just read out Z’s charges. The prosecutor demanded for 3 years in prison for Z.
Ivan is optimistic that Z can be found soon because the team has identified several locations where the detainee could headed.
