1.85 Million Students Graduated College in 2022: Education Ministry

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry in a hearing session with the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday announced that Indonesia produced 1.85 million college graduates which comprise undergraduate, applied undergraduate, or diplomas in 2022.
“Each year we graduate roughly 1.8 million college students. In 2022 we graduated 1,842,528 undergraduate, applied undergraduate, or diplomas,” said the director general acting head of the Higher Education, Research, and Technology Ministry, Nizam, in the House Hearing on February 8.
According to Nizam, the 1.85 million graduates were from 4,523 universities across the country that offer 31,399 study programs, with 326,554 lecturers and 9.32 million students.
Some 48.23 percent of the students are seeking education at private universities, 36.36 percent are at state universities, 2.11 percent at official tertiary institutions (PTK), and 13.4 percent at academic tertiary institutions (PTA).
The Ministry of Education has granted a growing number of permits for study programs in vocational tertiary institutions every year, namely 175 study programs in 2020, 182 study programs in 2021, and 303 study programs in 2022.
Nizam explained that there are five Indonesian state universities included in the 500 best universities in the world, namely Gadjah Mada University (UGM) ranked 231st, University of Indonesia (UI) 248th, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) 235th, Airlangga University 369th, and the 449th Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB).
