Ridwan Kamil Predicts Indonesia Will Return to Normal in 2022

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - As a volunteer for the phase-3 Covid-19 vaccine clinical trials, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil underwent a blood sampling test again today, September 30. He had received two injections or two doses of the vaccine candidate.

“After this, our blood should have made a reaction,” said Kamil, hoping his antibodies increase to up to 90 percent. “So it can be said that immunity against Covid-19 is formed.”

Kamil claimed he had not received the results, pending on the next blood sampling in December.

“Hopefully the first blood sampling turns back good, and the second sampling will produce a good result too, meaning it confirms the success in vaccine development,” he added.

Kamil reiterated that after December, he will further undergo medical checkup until March 2021. Although the clinical trial has not completed yet, December's results will be used as considerations for Bio Farma to begin the production of the vaccine given the pandemic emergency.

According to the governor, the vaccine developed in coordination with China’s Sinovac Biotech is the most reliable as the production will be carried out in the country. The government, he went on, had already set up a simulation to distribute the antibody across the archipelago.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 vaccination will kick off in 2021 and may take a full year. Thus, Indonesia is predicted to return to normal in 2022. “I say it transparently as it is. We must be mentally prepared,” said Ridwan Kamil.
