M4.8 Earthquake in West Java's Sukabumi Damages One House

TEMPO.CO, Sukabumi - A 4.8-magnitude earthquake followed by a 3.6-magnitude aftershock struck Sukabumi, West Java, on Saturday, September 7, damaging at least one house in Tegalbuleud subdistrict, according to a local government official.
Daeng Sutisna, an official from the Sukabumi Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), said on Saturday that a family of six in Calincing Village suffered significant damage to their house due to the earthquakes. BPBD reported no fatalities.
The displaced family is temporarily staying with relatives due to the severe damage to their home. The local government has pledged to provide an aid package to help them, Sutisna said.
Indonesia, located on the Circum-Pacific Belt or Ring of Fire, is prone to frequent earthquakes due to the convergence of several tectonic plates.
West Java is one of Indonesia's earthquake-prone provinces.
Earlier today, a magnitude 4.9 earthquake also shook Gianyar, Bali. The tremor was felt on the III-IV MMI scale, or the vibrations felt as if a truck was passing by.
The quake was also felt in Tabanan, Badung, Denpasar, Klungkung, Mataram, East Lombok, Central Lombok, and West Lombok at level III on the MMI scale.
BMKG reported no damages after the earthquake. Based on its analysis, no tsunami potential from the quake.
