TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) has teamed up with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to develop an AI-based weather modification technology dubbed the Smart TMC to cope with the country's land and forest fires.
“The artificial intelligence (AI) can be developed. We utilize components that are available in the industry 4.0 consisting of AI, big data, IoT, and other technologies that can be used for TMC. And they are all available at the BPPT,” said BPPT Chief Hammam Riza on October 4.
The research and development of the Smart TMC will be done by the BPPT, BMKG, and BBTMC or the Center for Weather Modification Technology.
The big data will be gathered by the machine for deep learning purposes, which will later become the predictive model used by the agencies. An AI center is also being finalized in order to connect, organize, and analyze data.
In tackling land and forest fires, the big data will present comprehensive reports to the BMKG regarding the location of a hotspot, when it started, and its intensity.
