TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Election Organization Ethics Council (DKPP) chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie viewed that Indonesia had lost a noted lawyer and anti-corruption activist Adnan Buyung Nasution. Jimly said on Wednesday, September 23, that Adnan deserved to be declared as a national hero.
“Hopefully the government would consider him [as a national hero] since he was awarded with the Bintang Mahaputera medal. He deserves a right to be buried at the National Heroes Cemetery,” Jimly said after attending a discussion at the Press Council building on Wednesday.
Adnan, Jimly added, should be made an example by young generations as a figure in justice and law. Jimly praised Adnan as a noted figure in the history of law.
“Hopefully his spirit and idealism as a lawyer, professional and law figure remain alive,” Jimly said.
According to Jimly, the 81-year-old lawyer was actively involved in the democracy movement.
“Hopefully God accept his good deeds and worship, and his family would let him go. What’s most important is that we must continue his efforts for the sake of justice and democracy,” Jimly said.
