TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Multicloud application service company F5 published a report on the current state of enterprises’ artificial intelligence or AI adoption.
F5's 2024 State of AI Application Strategy Report revealed that while 75 percent of corporations are adopting AI systems in their business operations, 72 percent report significant data quality issues and data incompetence after adopting AI.
“AI is a disruptive force, enabling companies to create innovative and unparalleled digital experiences. However, the practicalities of implementing AI are incredibly complex, and without a proper and secure approach, it can significantly heighten an organization’s risk posture," said Kunal Anand, Executive VP and CTO of F5, in his statement quoted on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
“Our report highlights a concerning trend: many enterprises, in their eagerness to harness AI, overlook the need for a solid foundation. This oversight not only diminishes the effectiveness of their AI solutions but also exposes them to a multitude of security threats," he added.
As corporations strive to develop AI-based digital services, this study highlights the challenges they face across the infrastructure, model, application services, and layers that must be overcome to achieve widespread and successful AI adoption.
The Promise and Reality of Generative AI
Corporate organizations are enthusiastic about the potential of generative AI in their businesses, as the study respondents named it the “most exciting technology trend of 2024.” However, only 24 percent of the organizations stated that they had implemented AI at scale.
AI is still rarely used for strategic purposes despite its rising popularity. Based on this study, generative AI is most often used in copilots and other employee productivity tools (40 percent) and customer service features such as chatbots (36 percent). Workflow automation (36 percent) is also named among the highest priorities of AI use.
When corporate leaders examine the challenges of deploying AI-based applications at scale, they cite three key issues faced at the infrastructure layer:
-62 percent said the cost of computing is the major concern in scaling AI
-57 percent expressed concerns about the model security
-More than half of the respondents (55 percent) were concerned about the performance across all aspects of the model
At the data layer, data maturity is a more immediate and potentially bigger challenge impacting the widespread implementation of AI:
-72 percent of study respondents cited data quality and the inability to scale data practices as key obstacles to scaling AI.
-53 percent cited a lack of AI and data skillset as a major obstacle.
-Over 77 percent of corporations said they lack a single data source.
According to the report, cyber security is a major concern for those tasked with delivering AI services. Some of the concerns with using AI include AI-powered attacks, data privacy, data leaks, and increased liability.
