TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coalition of Communities Concerned with Women's Representation (KMPKP) urges the General Election Commission (KPU) to immediately form guidelines for handling gender-based violence. Especially in the face of the 2024 elections after the dismissal of KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari.

The Honorary Board of Election Organizers (DKPP) has dismissed Hasyim Asyari as Chairman and Member of the KPU for the 2022-2027 Period because he was proven to have committed immoral acts and misused his position, authority, and state facilities for personal gain.

"In the case of Hasyim Asy'ari, likely, the ecosystem of collegial collective work and control between members is not running in the KPU institution, which ultimately makes ethical violations allowed and free to occur," said Deputy Coordinator of Maju Perempuan Indonesia (MPI) Titi Anggraini through a written statement, Friday, July 5, 2024.

Titi said the collegial collective leadership of election organizers should be the basis for control among colleagues. This is important to prevent fellow members from committing ethical violations or other deviant acts.

She said the involvement of the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) also needs to be strengthened to be able to penetrate areas that have the potential to trigger violence against women.

DKPP read out the verdict on the ethical violation case of KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari for alleged sexual harassment on Wednesday, July 3. DKPP stated that Hasyim was proven to have committed sexual harassment against the complainant with the initials CAT.

"Granting the complainant's complaint in its entirety," said DKPP Panel Chairman Heddy Lugito in a hearing to read out the ethical customer's decision.

Heddy gave a permanent dismissal sanction to KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari. "Imposing a sanction of permanent dismissal to the complainant Hasyim Asy'ari as chairman and member of the General Election Commission as of the date this decision is read," he said.

In the hearing held at the DKPP office, Central Jakarta, the complainant with the initials CAT and five attorneys from the Legal Aid Consultation Institute of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (LKBH-FHUI) led by Aristo Pangaribuan was also present. CAT is a female Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) member, The Hague.
