TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Central Lampung Police detained a member of the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) with the initials 'MSM', 42 years old, on Sunday, July 7, 2024. He was detained because he opened fire a gun during a wedding tradition, resulting in the death of a resident on Saturday, July 6, 2024.

"We have named MSM as a suspect in the shooting incident during a wedding tradition which resulted in the death of a resident," said Central Lampung Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Andik Purnomo Sigit.

He said the suspect was threatened with Article 359 of the Criminal Code and Article 1 paragraph (1) of the Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951, with a penalty of 5 - 20 years in prison.

"In fact, the suspect's sentence could still increase after a deeper investigation is carried out," said Andik.

According to him, the perpetrator has been arrested by a joint team consisting of Tekab 308 Presisi Central Lampung Police and the Lampung Police Satkrimum.

"It's true, we have detained MSM to be held accountable for his actions," said Andik when holding a press conference at the Central Lampung Police Headquarters.

Apart from arresting MSM, said Andik, the police also secured evidence in the form of one Zoraki MOD 914-T firearm, one magazine, four ammunition casings, one Belgian FNC long-barreled firearm, one magazine and one weapon bag colored green.

Not only those items, the police also secured one HS firearm + magazine, one Cobra revolver, two magazines, two empty firearm boxes, one box of firearm cleaning equipment, one Garuda Shooting Club letter, four rounds of 5.56 mm caliber ammunition and three 9 mm caliber ammunition shells.

All evidence, said Andik, were obtained from three houses, including the suspect's house in Hamlet I Kampung Mataram Ilir, Seputih District, Surabaya and MSM's house on Jalan Cempaka Margorejo Metro Selatan, Metro City, as well as the house belonging to SW, a resident of Bumi Nabung Timur.

"From the autopsy results, the bullet penetrated the left side of the victim's head (above the left ear) then went through the inside of the head until it exited from the victim's right temple. The official results are still waiting from the forensic doctor," he said.

Andik also emphasized that there were no involvement of law enforcement officers in the illegal possession of those weapons. "There were no involvement of security forces, either from the TNI (Indonesian Armed Forces) or the Polri (National Police)," he said.

Regarding this case, Andik Purnomo invited and appealed to the entire community to remain calm and maintain conducive public security and order.

"We ask the public to remain calm, hand over the case to the police, and currently we have detained the perpetrator," he said.

Previously, Central Lampung DPRD member MSM opened fire a gun as part of the tradition of welcoming his in-laws at his sister-in-law's wedding party in Hamlet 1 Mataram Ilir, Seputih District, Surabaya, Saturday at around 10:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).

As a result, a resident named Salam, 35 years old, died from a stray bullet fired from MSM's gun. It is known that the victim was the uncle of the suspect MSM, who was also a local Gerindra Party politician.
