TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Election Organization Ethics Council or DKPP read out the verdict on ethical violations by General Elections Commission (KPU) Head Hasyim Asy'ari today. The council said Hasyim was proven to have conducted sexual harassment against CAT, the complainant.
DKPP Chair Heddy Lugito imposed permanent dismissal for Hasyim Asy’ari as the chair and member of KPU. Heddy also asked President Joko Widodo or Jokowi to carry out this decision no later than seven days after the verdict was read and the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to supervise the execution.
At the trial that started at 02:00 p.m. local time, the complainant, a member of the Den Haag Overseas Election Committee was present along with five of her attorneys from the Legal Aid Center of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (LKBH-FHUI) led by Aristo Pangaribuan. Meanwhile, Hasyim Asy'ari was present virtually via the Zoom application.
Tempo was still trying to get a response from Hasyim Asy'ari regarding the DKPP decision until the article was uploaded.
Previously, a woman who served on the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN), reported Hasyim Asy'ari to DKPP on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Hasyim was reported for committing inappropriate acts violating KPU’s ethics code.
The report was represented by UI’s Legal Aid Center and LBH APIK. The LKBH-FHUI representative, Aristo Pangaribuan, said Hasyim was accused of approaching, seducing, and even committing inappropriate acts, committed from September 2023 through March 2024. "These actions were committed against our client, a PPLN member who has a working relationship with the KPU Chair. In fact, the KPU Chair himself is bound by a legal marriage," said Aristo on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
CAT and Hayim met on several occasions during Hasyim’s official visit to Europe and CAT’s visit to Indonesia.
Previously, Hasyim Asy'ari denied accusations of sexual harassment. "I’m denying every accusation against me as it’s not fact,” he said on May 22, 2024, after a trial.
