Jokowi Inaugurates Pamukkulu Dam Project Worth Rp1.6 trillion in South Sulawesi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi inaugurated the Pamukkulu Dam in Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, on Friday, July 5, 2024. The head of state hopes the dam will boost agricultural productivity in the surrounding area.
The Rp1.6 trillion project was designed in 2017, with a capacity of 82 million cubic meters and a 460-hectare pool area. "This dam is huge and costs a lot of money,” the president said in his speech today. “But we will sow the benefits later, especially for the people of Takalar Regency.”
Jokowi hopes Pamukkulu Dam will have a positive impact on raw water and electricity. The former Governor of Jakarta also believes that the project could reduce flooding in the region.
"And most importantly, this dam could irrigate the rice fields in Takalar Regency and its surrounding regions,” said Jokowi.
The inauguration of Pamukkulu Dam is Jokowi's last agenda in South Sulawesi before heading back to Jakarta. President Jokowi left for South Sulawesi on Thursday, July 4, 2024. The former Solo Mayor visited several places in Bone Regency before going to the Sinjai Regency Regional Hospital.
Today, Jokowi started his second day of working visit to South Sulawesi by visiting Cekkeng Market, Bulukumba Regency, and inspecting the water pumps in Layoa village, Bantaeng Regency.
