BMKG Warns Fishermen of High Waves in Sunda Strait

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) asked fishermen in the west and south of the Sunda Strait and the Indian Ocean to remain vigilant of the 2.5-meter to 4-meter high waves potentially causing accidents at sea.

"We hope the fishermen remain vigilant of the bad weather ahead until Thursday, August 3, 2023," said the Data and Information Coordinator of BMKG, Tatang, in Serang, Banten on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

Tatang explains that the warning is also intended for fishermen utilizing boat fishing gear and other sailors such as ferries, barges, etc. The warning encompasses the west of Sunda Strait including Anyer Beach, Carita Beach, Labuan Beach, Panimbang Beach, Cikeusik Beach, Sumur Beach, and Ujung Kulon Beach.

The warning was also intended for Binuangeun Beach, Suka Hujan Beach, Cihara Beach, Panggarangan Beach, Bayah Beach Pulomanuk Beach, Tanjungpanto Beach, and Sawarna Beach.

The Head of Fish Landing Base in Binuangeun, Ahmad Hadi, said that his agency has received information about bad weather. He urged the fishermen across 11 fish auction markets to refrain from sailing to avoid accidents. "We asked fishermen, sailors, tourists, and the residents to comply with the officers to ensure safety," he explained.
