TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A shallow earthquake measured at magnitude 5 on the Richter scale struck the Jember Regency in East Java Province early on Thursday dawn.
Citing the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) website, the quake struck at 00:42 Indonesia Western Time (WIB) 338 kilometers Southwest of Jember and from a depth of 10 kilometers. Damages have yet to be reported.
Geographically, Indonesia is within the Pacific Ring of Fire trajectory, which is a trajectory where there are rows of volcanoes and is the reason why earthquakes often occur.
