TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Suspect of an alleged hate speech case that jailed Former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, Buni Yani is set to undergo a trial verdict at the Bandung District Court today on November 14.

Authorities that comprise of Indonesian National Police (Polri) and Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) members are set to secure the are inside and around the court.

Bandung Police Chief Commissioner Hendro Pandowo stated that there will be at least 800 police and TNI personnel guarding the location throughout the trial. The court proceeding is predicted to attract hundreds of Buni Yani supporters.

According to numerous sources, many mass-organizations comprised of the Islamic Alliance Movement, Islamic Defender Front (FPI), and Bang Japar will be present at the court proceeding. Rumors also suggest that former public figures of the last year’s 212 demonstrations will be present too.

Buni Yani is accused of spreading hatred and editing the video of a speech of former Jakarta Governor Ahok. He is charged with Article 32 (1) Article 28 of the ITE law. The public prosecutor indicted Buni to two years in prison.

At the time, Buni Yani uploaded a video of the speech that Ahok gave at the Thousand Islands on 27 September 2016, onto his Facebook page. Not only did Buni Yani upload the video, he also incorrectly transcribed the former governor’s speech regarding the Al-Maidah holy verse which led to a public outcry.
