Jakarta Police Nab Person over Hate Speech against Police

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police arrested and named AH as a suspect in the case of hate speech against police members committed through short video platform SnackVideo. The police are investigating other suspects.

“We are investigating [other suspects],” said the Jakarta Police’s Director of Special Crime Investigation at the Metro Jaya Police, Sr. Comr. Auliansyah, at a press conference in his office, Friday, July 29, 2022.

Previously reported, police spokesman Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan said the suspect created an account on the money-game app and uploaded videos due to economic problems. “He got money every time he uploads videos or posts from SnackVideo,” Zulpan said during a press conference at the Police HQ on Thursday.

According to him, the case is a follow-up on a police report by an individual, MR, under number LP/B/3826/VII/2022/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya, dated July 26, 2022.

According to Zulpan, the material source of the suspect's video came from Twitter account @Opposite6890 and a Telegram channel of the same name. AH then edited it by adding a voice reaction using the KineMaster and Lexis audio editing apps before uploading it onto his SnackVideo account @RakyatJelata98.

“The video contains news suspected of being false that may cause uproar in the community and the content accuses several police officials and may spark hatred and or hostility based on SARA (tribal, religious, racial and societal group) issues,” said Zulpan.

The Jakarta Police are tracing and chasing the administrator of the Twitter account @Opposite6890.
