TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Metro Jaya Police are still investigating the source of funds for Khilafatul Muslimin following the finding of more than Rp2.3 billion in cash at the mass organization’s safety box in its headquarters in Bandar Lampung.
Jakarta Metro Police’s head of public relations, Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan, said the funds were found in four iron safety boxes during the police search on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
“It is more than Rp2.3 billion, almost Rp2.4 billion to be precise,” said Zulpan during a press conference, in Jakarta, Sunday, June 12, 2022.
As previously reported, the police on Tuesday, June 7, named the leader of the Muslim group Abdul Qadir Hasan Baraja as a suspect in the alleged case of hate speech and fake news. The latter was arrested in Bandar Lampung.
Zulpan said he could not yet convey in detail where the group obtained the funds and since when the money had been collected.
As quoted from Tempo Magazine's June 11, 2022 edition, the leader of the Khilafatul Muslimin for the Greater Bekasi, Abu Salma, claimed the funding came from public alms to assist the operations of the Islamic boarding school as well as the management of the organization.
