Saifuddin Ibrahim Named Suspect of Blasphemy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police on Wednesday, March 30, named Saifuddin Ibrahim as a suspect of religious blasphemy and hate speech following a Youtube video he uploaded, where he called for 300 Holy Quran verses to be erased.
“Investigators have named SI as a suspect on March 28,” Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Ahmad Ramadhan confirmed in a press conference held at the National Police Headquarters.
Three police reports were filed against the self-proclaimed pastor, which was all received by police on March 18.
The police spokesman added that investigators have questioned 13 people with 9 witnesses and 4 expert witnesses; a linguist, a religious expert in Islam, an expert in information and technology, and a criminal expert.
Saifuddin Ibrahim faces charges under Law No.11/2008 on information and electronic transactions, with a sentence for a maximum of 6 years imprisonment and a fine of up to Rp1 billion.
