TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police personnel from the Riau Police have arrested a suspect identified as AP for selling fake COVID-19 travel permits at the Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru.
The police said the suspect, who had committed the illegal activities for the past three months, managed to issue 1,252 documents.
Riau Police Chief Insp. Gen. Agung Setya Imam Effendi said the suspect’s crime was revealed after the airport management discovered a fake COVID-19 travel pass that was presented by a passenger at the airport.
When pressed about the fake pass, the passenger (S) confessed to not going through any rapid tests to obtain the pass. The fake pass had a name of a hospital that the passenger was not listed on.
“Based on that information, the police eventually arrested AP,” the police chief wrote in a statement on Friday, June 4.
Apart from selling counterfeit COVID-19 travel permits, AP is also acted as a flight ticket broker at the same airport and had reportedly sold the fake passes at Rp50,000-200,000.
