12 Killed After Evelyn Calisca Boat Capsizes in Riau

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The death toll from the fatal incident that saw the Evelyn Calisca 01 boat capsize in the waters of the Riau Province has increased to 12 people. The boat departed from Tembilahan in Indragiri Hilir to Tanjung Pinang.
The Indragiri Hilir police chief Norhayat on Friday said the 12 passengers who died were adults and children. “The confirmed data shows 12 people had died,” he said.
The Evelyn Calisca boat initially capsized on Thursday, April 27, at noon nearby the Pulau Burung waters as it was heading to Tanjung Pinang.
A joint search and rescue effort is currently mobilized to search for victims and possible survivors.
The boat itself has been towed back to the Sungai Guntung harbor by a local boat on Thursday.
