Riau Police Uncover International Narcotics Distribution Network

27 September 2023 20:56 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Riau regional police announced that the station has uncovered an international network of narcotics distribution during a press conference on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. The vice chief of Riau regional police Brigadier General Kasihan Rahmadi reported that 16 people were named suspects in the case, with 4 proceeding to be rehabilitated after being indicated as users only.

"The evidence secured by the police consisted of three types, namely 9.94 kilograms of methamphetamine, 60.23 kilograms of marijuana, and 54,623 ecstasy pills," he said. The evidence is sourced from four cases.

Rahmadi explained that the discovery of the network was based on a police report in September 2023, where the police arrested 7 suspects, MS, NP, MA, C, FR, Z, and AN.

After the arrest, Riau police conducted a crime scene processing in three locations; hotel room number 340 at Hotel Labersa, Tunas Jaya Residence housing complex block-04, and Jl. Purnama, Dumai, Riau.

In the subsequent development of the case, the police secured 60.23 kilograms of marijuana, based on a police report no. 83 in September. Police arrested IB, FU, NY, and NA in this case. "All of the evidence of marijuana was contained in the Toyota Avanza car used by the suspects," Kasihan stressed.

Kasihan assumed the discovery of this narcotics network saved 214,350 people. Thus, he said, police have to pay attention to people who are potentially affected by these cases.

"Narcotics abusers are charged with Article 114 (2) in conjunction with Article 112 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 (1) of the Narcotics Law. The suspects are facing the death penalty, life sentence, or prison from six months to twenty years," Rahmadi concluded.
