TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A fire raged in Christ Cathedral Church in Serpong, Tangerang Regency, today morning, April 27, at around 8 a.m. local time.

Tangerang Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head of Emergency, Kosrudin, said that firefighters have now managed to bring the fire under control. “The personnel is cooling [the building] down,” said Kosrudin via a phone call today.

According to him, five fire trucks were mobilized as soon as the fire department received a public report. It was allegedly generated from an electrical short circuit on the third floor.

Kosrudin claimed there was no death toll and no immediate report on the material losses from the incident. “The building is empty [when the incident occurs], there are no people except security officers,” he said.

However, a firefighter fainted due to thick smog. Pagedangan Sector Police Chief was also injured while inspecting the burnt Christ Cathedral Church. Kosrudin recalled that the police chief tried to avoid the debris while on the stairs but got his feet slipped.

“His right tip of the forehead is wounded and so he is rushed to Pagedangan community health center,” he explained.

Kosrudin added that the fire swept through the entire floors of the building. “It seems that the building cannot be functioned anymore,” he opined.
