TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Garut Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) stated that the total losses from the 6.2 magnitude earthquake, which occurred on Saturday, April 27, at around 23:29 WIB (Western Indonesia Time), reached Rp12.6 billion.
Based on the latest data, six people were injured and 464 houses were damaged, of which 11 were severely damaged, 93 were moderately damaged, and 355 were lightly damaged. At least 54 public facilities were also damaged, of which 5 were severely damaged, 14 were moderately damaged, and 34 were slightly damaged.
The impact of the powerful quake spread across 29 sub-districts in 101 villages and four districts in West Java.
The Garut Regency government has not yet provided aid to affected victims because data collection on the losses is ongoing. “We are still collecting and verifying data,” said the Head of the Garut Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Aah Anwar Saefuloh, on Tuesday, April 30, at the Disaster Command Post.
Although many victims were affected, the government did not set up evacuation posts as many damaged buildings could still be occupied.
It was observed that community activities were running normally after the quake. “No one was displaced and people's livelihoods have not changed,” Aah said, adding that the assistance to be provided will be in the form of food assistance and cash assistance for building repairs.
Previously, Garut Regional Secretary Nurdin Yana confirmed that the regional government had allocated Rp58 billion from the regional budget for disaster handling.
