5.0 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Pandeglang; No Tsunami Potential

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A tectonic earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude shook Pandeglang, Banten on Thursday morning. The BMKG stated that the earthquake had no tsunami potential.

The impact of the earthquake can be felt through the districts of Malingping, Cijaku, Panggarangan, Bayah, Ciptagelar, Wanasalam and Pelabuhan Ratu.

The BMKG's head of Earthquake Information and Tsunami Early Warning, Daryono, said that at 06:41 on Thursday, February 14, the coast of Java's South Indian Ocean was hit by a tectonic earthquake.

BMKG analysis shows that the earthquake has a power of M5.0 located at sea at a distance of 84 kilometers south of Pandeglang City, Banten Province. The source of quake is 56-kilometer deep, making it a shallow type earthquake.

"The earthquake was caused by the subduction of the Indo-Australian plate, which infiltrated the Eurasian Plate," he said.

So far, there have been no reports of the damage caused by the earthquake. The modeling results show that the earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami

As of 07:02 Jakarta time, the BMKG monitoring results have not shown any aftershock activity. Residents are encouraged to remain calm and disregard unverified information.
