3 Names Emerge as Pertamina President Director Possible Candidate

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A week after the dismissal of state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) president director, three names have emerged as likely replacements: Dwi Wahyu Dartoyo, Arief Budiman, and Ahmad Bambang.

None of the possible replacements, however, has been announced as an official candidate.

“There are names, but the decision is in the hands of the SOE Minister,” Pertamina commissioner Suahasil Nazara told Tempo at the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs on Thursday, February 9, 2017.

Suahasil declined to mention names because the matter is still under discussion among members of Pertamina board of commissioner. After the discussion, the names will be proposed to the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Rini Soemarno. “There is still 30 days left following the appointment of the acting president director,” said Suahasil, who is also serving as the Finance Ministry’s Fiscal Agency head.

Ahmad Bambang was among the names being bandied about to replace Dwi Soetjipto despite the fact that Ahmad had only been sacked from the post of the company’s deputy president director. Dwi and Ahmad’s dismissals were sparked by leadership conflict. On Friday last week, Rini criticized the two for their leadership’s style.

SOE Ministry official said that Rini had her own reasons for proposing the re-appointment of Ahmad Bambang, citing Rini’s appreciation to Bambang for his achievements. “One of which are retail product inventions, such as Pertalite,” the official said on Wednesday, February 8, 2017.

It is, therefore, not surprising that Rini had reportedly submitted Ahmad Bambang for Pertamina president director post to President Joko Widodo after a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday last week. Two other possible candidates recommended by Rini were Pertamina director for human resources, technology, and general affairs Wahyu Daryoto and Pertamina director of finance Arief Budiman.
