TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto recollected the life of his late daughter, Natarina Sofianti, who died as a child during the funeral procession of his granddaughter, Ahmad Daniyal Alfatih, in Karanganyar, Central Java.
“A long time ago, Natarina also died when she was a baby,” Wiranto recalled. Natarina was buried beside her aunt’s grave, Daniyal.
Ahmad Daniyal (1-year-and-4-month-old) died on Thursday noon of November 15 after she tragically slipped and fell into a pool in her house.
Wiranto recalled the time Natarina died in October of 1978. He said that he was a captain when Natarina, who was just six-day-old at the time, was suddenly choked.

“She was taken to the hospital on a becak (rickshaw) since there was no car there,” the coordinating minister recalled. Natarina’s life was unable to be saved and she died while en route to the hospital that day.
The name Natarina Sofianti was inspired by Wiranto’s 14-month service in East Timor when he stayed at Natarbora. Meanwhile, Sofianti represents a lesson: “a lesson that war is awful,” said the coordinating minister.
