TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, said that during the four years of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla administration, national stability was well maintained despite the periodic ups and downs.
"Political stability goes up and down, cold, but not boiling," said Wiranto at the State Secretariat, Jakarta, Thursday, October 25, 2018.
Wiranto said that the level of stability could be seen from the Indonesian Democracy Index (IDI). In 2015-2016, the IDI showed a decline from 72.82 to 70.09 due to the addition of two indicators in calculating the index.
In calculating the index in 2015, there was an addition of report variable and the use of government facilities for the benefit of certain candidates in the selection of legislative candidates. In addition, the involvement of civil servants in political activities in the Legislative Election also became a benchmark.
"But this time, the government gave a signal, the civil servants should not use the state facilities for a political campaign," Wiranto said.
The IDI increased again in 2017 by 2.02 points to 72.11. According to Wiranto, it showed the level of democracy in Indonesia is in the medium category.
