TEMPO.CO, Menlo Park, CA - Facebook is predicted to be more unpopular within the next few years. Researchers from Princeton University, USA, said there will be a drop in users up to 80 percent between 2015 and 2017.
The study uses a research model of health pattern and virus in a human body. Social media is like a virus which spreads quickly but dies in a certain period.
The predictions may prove to be true, because other research also predicted people's decrease of interest towards Facebook. Here are 4 reasons thought to be the cause of the death of the social media founded by Mark Zuckerberg as quoted from the InvestorPlace website yesterday:
Age
Facebook is almost 10 years old (it was founded on Feb. 4, 2004). And yes, this is a problem. Consumers like to use something fresh and exciting. The age problem has hit companies like Yahoo! (YAHOO) and AOL (AOL). Despite of many efforts to turn things around, they have had a hard time getting more traction. Facebook stock might just be the next in line.
MySpace Syndrome
Facebook is considered the new version of MySpace. As we know, MySpace was once the most popular social media in the early 2000’s. However, as the users are declining, News Corp - owner of MySpace - had to sell the site in 2008.
Losing Its Cool Factor
Facebook has lost its cool factor as a media which connects people by the appearance of instant messenger clients such as WhatsApp and LINE. WhatsApp prouds itself for its humbleness while LINE draws the younger crowd with a more interesting design.
Lack of Innovation
The main page, known as Home, was at first the main attraction for Facebook users. Through the page, people can read various info, from a friend’s updated status, pictures, even videos. After 10 years, there is still no significant change to this feature.
It is not that Facebook never innovates. They just made a Facebook Messenger Service and video ad with an autoplay format. However, both of these strategies are failed attempts to please the users.
