TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Bromo, a majestic active volcano situated in East Java, is slated to be temporarily closed from April 25 to 26, 2024. The reason behind this closure is to facilitate the cleaning of the area that has been littered by tourists during the long holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
Septi Eka Wardhani, the head of administration of the National Parks of Bromo Tengger Semeru (TNBTS), confirmed the closure.
Previously, the country’s most popular tourist destination, which has a height of 2,392 meters above sea level, was also closed from April 4 to 5 prior to the Islamic holiday.
Septi explained that the closure and clean-up program had been approved by the tourism stakeholders, such as the jeep association, horse association, and traders association, as well as local communities.
“We are implementing this (temporary closure) based on the results of the coordination meeting held on March 28 at the visitor center in Cemorolawang (Ngadisari Village, Sukapura District, Probolinggo Regency),” he said on Tuesday, April 2.
Mount Bromo is always teeming with both domestic and foreign tourists during holidays. However, the downside of this popularity is that the density of visitors is proportional to the amount of trash left in the area. Therefore, a special moment is necessary to restore the cleanliness of the mountain area.
