Google Gives Digital Training to 405,000 Teachers in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google has rolled out digital learning and training for 405,000 teachers across Indonesia through the Google Education platform since its establishment in 2019. Olivia Basrin, Google's Country Lead for Education in Indonesia, said that 14,700 of the teachers are now Google Certified Educators.

Olivia said that the Google Certified Educator is an international standard certification program recognized globally and renewed every three years.

"We are helping education in Indonesia through various learning platforms that are used. Currently we are also conducting training for teachers in Indonesia," Olivia said in the 'Future of Education' report press release in Jakarta, Monday.

She said currently Indonesia is the country with the largest number of teachers certified by Google in the Asia Pacific region. "In fact, Indonesia is currently ranked 7th in the world," Olivia added.

She said that the top five provinces in the number of teachers certified by Google; East Java, West Java, Central Java, Jakarta, and South Sulawesi.

The Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, also stressed the importance of the role of the right technology and products to advance the education sector in Indonesia.

"All efforts to transform education through the Freedom to Learn (Merdeka Belajar) policy and movement also require support from the technological aspect, so that positive changes can be felt by students and educators throughout the country," Nadiem said.
