TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - High school students Flora Hapsari Mutiaraningrum and Sovalia Intan, won first place at the Youth Scientific Work Competition (LKIR) 2022. The SMA 1 Teras of Boyolali, Central Java students won in the category of Social Sciences and Humanities, with their work: ' Si Wayang: The Transformation of Wayang Beber as a Show and Guidance into an Educational Animation on Bullying Prevention'.
The Wayang Beber animation is packaged into an app called Si Wayang, which is available to download via Instagram through the @applicationsiwayang account.
"This work is inspired by social problems that often occur around us. In our environment, physical abuse is often seen as a joke, even though they cause anxiety and discomfort," Flora said as quoted from the official website of the National Research and Innovation Agency on Tuesday, November 8.
Flora and Sovalia hope that the Si Wayang Beber app can help prevent bullying and abuse. They also hope that teenagers will help innovate Wayang Beber so that it can be preserved and attracts young people.
The two girls received guidance from researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities to conduct researches.
Wayang Beber is a type of shadow puppet show performed by exposing or spreading sheets of paper or cloth with pictures with leather shadow puppet (wayang kulit) as the characters, narrated by a puppeteer.
"Wayang Beber is a cultural heritage not commonly known by the public, especially teenagers. To preserve its existence, we chose Wayang Beber as an educational medium by modifying it into animation. By animating Wayang Beber, hope it can be more easily accepted and liked by teenagers," Flora said.
