TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government plans to impose the level 3 public activity restriction (PPKM) nationwide during this year's Christmas and New Year holiday season in an attempt to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The plan was announced by the Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy on Thursday, November 18, 2021.
"Throughout Christmas and New Year’s Eve, each and every Indonesian region will impose the Level 3 PPKM," Muhadjir said as quoted by Antaranews.
Muhadjir explained that plan is necessary to restrict public mobility which always occurs at the end of the year. Provinces that are currently restricted under the Level 1-2 PPKM will also be subjected to this announcement.
The government plans to enact the PPKM rule starting from December 24, 2021, to January 2, 2022, while the exact implementation will wait for an official instruction letter from the Home Affairs Ministry. The instruction will act as guidance to implement the technical regulations of the Level 3 PPKM.
PPKM Level 3 will see stricter public mobility as attendance in public spaces such as movie theaters, restaurants, and shopping centers will be limited to 50 percent of their total capacity. Businesses hours will also be limited to 9:00 PM.
