TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police urged McDonald's to delete the BTS Meal promotion from the online delivery apps to anticipate crowds of people at the fast-food restaurant chain outlets as occurred yesterday.
“We have suggested them remove the BTS Meal promotion from the app yesterday so there will be no crowds,” said Jakarta Police Head of Public Relations Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus at the police HQ, South Jakarta, Thursday, June 10.
McDonald's special menu promotion in collaboration with popular K-pop group Bangtan Boys or BTS which that was launched Wednesday attracted large crowds. As a result, the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) along with the police closed 32 outlets for 1x24 hours due to concerns over Covid-19 transmission.
The outlets’ managers were also questioned by the local police station. “They promise to improve their system to avoid crowds,” Yusri said.
Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the Satpol PP had taken action following the line of people and drivers of online delivery service snaked around the outlets.
“Because of extraordinary crowds, Satpol PP, the military (TNI), the police, and task force [for Covid-19 handling] take action by closing the outlets for 1x24 hours,” said Riza in the City Hall on Wednesday.
Riza added that the provincial administration would also impose a fine on McDonald's management.
