Police to Summon McDonald's Management over BTS Meal Crowds

9 June 2021 22:46 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaLarge crowds of people queuing to purchase BTS Meal resulted in the temporary closure of several McDonald’s outlets in Jakarta. Jakarta Metro Police then scheduled a summon for the management of the fast-food restaurant chain.

“Yes, they will be called in for clarification,” said Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus as quoted from Antara in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 9.

He said the summon would be the final process in following up on today’s crowds at McDonald’s outlets.

According to Yusri, the police and the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) focused on dispersing and preventing further crowds at McDonald’s outlets today. “We close the entry doors and gates heading to the outlets,” he added.

The management was also asked to stop operating its online delivery service application to block orders. “We ask the managers to immediately [temporarily] stop [the service at] the delivery app,” Yusri said.

Earlier today, Jakarta Police closed and sealed several McDonald’s outlets in Central Jakarta following crowds of people queuing to purchase the new signature menu in collaboration with popular Korean boy band group BTS

The Jakarta Satpol PP Head Bernard Tambunan said the temporary closure had to be forced at five outlets; two in Gambir, two in Menteng, and one in Senen. “We have to temporarily seal the outlets from today until Thursday because of big crowds of online ojek taking BTS Meal promotion orders,” said Bernard in Jakarta today.
