Jokowi Sends Condolences to Victims of Majene Earthquake

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday offers his condolences to the victims of the magnitude 6.2 earthquake that struck West Sulawesi Province. Initial reports found eight people were killed in Majene Regency.
“I, on behalf of the government and the entire Indonesians, would like to express our deepest condolences over the victims who lost their lives,” said President Jokowi at the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java on January 15.
The earthquake struck Majene at 01:28 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) earlier this morning. The President also announced that he had ordered officials to act swiftly in mitigating the situation.
“I have called the West Sulawesi Governor this morning and ordered the National Mitigation Disaster Agency (BNPB), the Social Affairs Minister, the Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander, and the National Police Chief to quickly handle the aftermath of the disaster and search for victims and treat survivors,” said Jokowi.
The President also conveyed condolences to the victims of the landslide that happened in Sumedang, West Java, on January 9, 2021.
