6.2M Quake; Jokowi Sends Disaster Mitigation Chief, Social Minister to Majene

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has instructed the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) head Doni Monardo and Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini to Majene-Mamuju, West Sulawesi. The area was struck by an earthquake after midnight on 15 January.
Majene-Mamuju was struck by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 at 01:28 local time. Reports said that three people have died while 24 are severely injured.
The earthquake also forced some 2,000 to evacuate, leaving their homes to a safer area.
The Majene earthquake also triggered landslides at three locations along the Majene-Mamuju Road, cutting off access.
Reports so far have mentioned 62 houses, one community health center, and the Malunda Military Command office building damaged during the disaster.
